War Story:
Sources indicate to the VHPA that this is the aircraft mentioned in the 1st Inf Div history as follows: The Big Red One's first offensive operation in Vietnam began on July 22, 1965, when B/2/16th Inf conducted a search of the area around the 2nd Brigade's base camp at Bien Hoa. The battalion commander, LTC Lloyd L. Burke, was directing armed helicopters in support of the sweep when his own helicopter was hit by a VC hand grenade. The colonel was injured and evacuated to the States.
